Robert Klein

Robert Elliot Klein, 74, of Kamuela, Hawaii passed away on July 30, 2023 in San Francisco,CA. Rob is survived by his loving wife, Linda Clifford; step-children Madeline, AJ (Alicia); grand-children Penelope and Oliver; brother Ben (Emma); nieces Jennifer (Joey); Valerie and his great-nephew, Jason (Angie); and great-grandniece Autumn. Son of Gerald Klein and Rose (Zaref) Klein, Rob was born and raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Rob graduated from Hunter College where his interest in art led him to a lifetime career in publishing, management, production design, and planning. Upon retirement, Rob moved to theBig Island of Hawaii in 2012. It was always Rob’s dream to live in Hawaii. He was an avid tennis player and volunteer in the Kamuela community who shared his aloha in many kind and thoughtful ways. Rob will be sorely missed. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rob’s memory to be made to Hawaii Forest Institute P.O. David Nail

David Clelland Nail, 61, of Keaau, died Aug. 4 at home. He was born in California and was the owner/operator of Capo Beach Equipment Rental. Private services held. Survived by wife, Marci Nail of Keaau; sons, Tyler Nail of Montana and Thomas Perez of Keaau; daughters, Alissa (Jake) Vonic of California and Jenna (Alex Klarenbach) Nail of Keaau; brothers, Jim (Claire) Nail of Oregon and Steven Nail of California; sisters, Lorraine (David) Visher and Merry Nail of California; two granddaughters; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Lillian Ching

Lillian Kaena “Honey” (Cazimero) Ching, 85, of Hawi, died on Monday, August 7, 2023 at home. She was born on September 21, 1937 in Kohala. She was a retired cashier and server at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kohala Ward, 55-524 Hawi Rd., Hawi, HI, 96719; Visitation from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Service at 11 a.m.; burial and interment with her husband’s ashes to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. William Richter

William “Sandy” James Richter, 75, of Pahoa, died Aug. 7 at home. He was born in Palo Alto, Calif. and was a retired billing department supervisor with clinics where he lived and was also a Veteran of the US Navy. Private scattering of ashes at a later date. Survived by spouse, John Perkins of Pahoa; sisters, Katherine (Walter) Jury and Diane (Jesse) McCormick of Baker, Ore., Peggy (Dave) Barlet of Richmond, Wash. and Judith Richter of Portland, Ore.; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Bernard Geiger

Bernard “Bernie” Geiger, 85, of Hilo, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 in Hilo. Born on December 30, 1937, in Braddock, Pennsylvania; he attended and graduated from Pitcairn High School. Played trumpet in the band. After high school, he worked for an engineering firm, organized and played in Drum and Bugle Corps, was a volunteer Sheriff in Colorado, a deep-water yachtsman, marksman, and avid history buff. Bernie moved to Virginia, then Colorado and for the last 23 years he resided in Hilo, Hawaii. Bernie passed peacefully surrounded by family, after battling pancreatic cancer. Survived by wife, Bonnie Geiger of Hilo; two children, Michael Geiger and Michele Gamble; two grandchildren and five-great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Rylen Waiwaiole

Rylen Hanohano Waiwaiole, stillborn boy, of Pahoa, died on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at home. No services. Survived by, parents, Rylen Waiwaiole and Ashley Olivar; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; grandparents, Albert and Shawntel Waiwaiole. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary
