KAILUA-KONA — Following three competitive sets full of long rallies and a multitude of backcourt digs, Parker girls volleyball beat Makua Lani 3-0 in a road win Tuesday night at Old Airport — 25-8, 25-20 and 25-11.
The Lions were relentless on both ends of the court and were a tough out for the Bulls, especially in the second frame, where they held a lead for the majority of the game. However, Parker’s team chemistry down the stretch in setting each other up for kills proved to be a main deciding factor.
Parker moved to 4-2 overall on the season and remains tied with Kohala for fifth in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Div. II standings (as of the afternoon of Sept. 20). Makua Lani (0-5) is still in search of its first victory of the early season, sitting at 11th in the rankings.
The Bulls will next play Laupahoehoe at 5 p.m. Friday in Waimea Park. The Lions will also embark to the countryside to play Hawaii Prep at 5 p.m. Friday at Castle Gym.
Kohala handles Ka Umeke
Kohala beat Ka Umeke in consecutive sets Tuesday in Kapaau by scores of 25-10, 25-7 and 25-13.
The Cowgirls jumped to 4-2 on the season and remained tied for fifth (as of the afternoon of Sept. 20) in BIIF Div. II, while Ka Umeke fell to 1-4 and stayed at 10th in the standings.
Kohala will continue its homestand against Honoka‘a this weekend, taking on the Dragons at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kapaau for a highly-anticipated Div. II-powerhouse matchup. Ka Umeke will head over to Pahoa to play the Daggers at 5 p.m. Friday.
HPA remains undefeated
Hawaii Prep routed Christian Liberty Academy on Monday on the road in a straight-sets sweep of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-9.
Ka Makani stayed undefeated on the season (5-0) and tied for first in Div. II with Ka‘u (as of the afternoon of Sept. 20). CLA remained winless at 0-6 (as of afternoon of Sept. 20) and tied for 12th in the standings.
HPA was led by Mya Pinkert in the serve department with five aces, while Elaina Head had seven kills.
Ka Makani will next face Makua Lani at 5 p.m. Friday at Castle Gym. CLA faced Konawaena on Wednesday night in Kealakekua.
Kanu falls to SJS
Kanu lost to St. Joseph in straight sets Monday at home — 25-10, 25-8 and 25-16.
After starting the season 0-3, the Cardinals have had a nice recovery since, now at 2-4 and ninth in BIIF Div. II. Kanu is still winless at 0-6, sitting at No.13 in Div. II.
SJS will return to action against Christian Liberty at 5 p.m. Wednesday on the road. Kanu will play CLA at 10 a.m. Saturday at Waimea Park.
