Clinton Cariaga

Clinton Keliikouola Cariaga, 60, of Kamuela, died on July 23 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honokaa, he was a tire salesman for Lex Brodie’s Tire Company and Goodyear Tires. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at New Hope Church in Kamuela. Luncheon to follow. Casual attire. Survived by, wife, Denaise Cariaga; daughters, Iwalani (Donovan) Roque and Noelani Cariaga, all of Kamuela; sons, B.J. Delos Santos and Clinton Cariaga; sisters, Kimberly Cariaga and Michelle (Doyle) Domingo, all of Kamuela; brothers, Benjamin (Heidi) Cariaga of Napoopoo and Nathan (Jane) Cariaga of Pahoa; 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Taric Ching

Taric “Ricky” Kealuhelemauna Nihipali Raymond Ching, 26, died on July 23 in Las Vegas, Nev. Born in Kona, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army Infantry Division. Celebration of life will be on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Keokea Beach Park. Visitation at 10 a.m with service at 11 a.m. He is survived by his mother, Johnelle “Amoo” (Godfrey) Kainoa of Kawaihae, father, Darrell (Amber) Corrales of Kohala and Birth Mother, Lurline Raymond of Waikoloa, Grandmother, Honey Pat Ching of Kohala and daughter, Christina Cirian of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers Sione Ching, Kekoa (Kristian Ellazar) Ching, and Keanu Kainoa of Kohala; sisters Micharline (Rudy) Kunishige of Hilo, and Leilani Salvador of Honoka’a; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews.

Joseph Estencion

Joseph Castillon Estencion, 96, of Captain Cook died on Sept. 25 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Ookala, Hawaii, he was a retired maintenance man at Keauhou Country Club. Visitation will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Jaime Florendo Sr.

Jaime Florendo Sr. 88, of Pahoa, died on Sept. 15 at home. Born on Kauai, he was a landscaper at Pahoa Suds &Duds, truck driver for Office Things Hawaii, newspaper carrier for Hawaii Tribune Herald and a member of Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will be held at 9 a.m. on Oct. 28 at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church with luncheon to follow at the Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall. He is survived by sons, Jaime (Dona) Florendo Jr. of Pahoa, James (Leilani) Florendo of Hilo; daughters, Jaylene Florendo, Jolene Florendo, both of Pahoa; brothers, Casamero “Mero” Florendo, Alfonso “Ponce” (Nemesia) Florendo, both of Kaua’i; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; in addition to cousins and numerous nieces &nephews.Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

Pearl Hind

Pearl Nalani Hind, 75, of Holualoa, died on Sept. 7 at home. Born in Kealakekua, she was the co-owner of Details With Aloha, a residential cleaning service, a member of Kai E Hitu Canoe Club and a trustee of Martha San Filippo Charitable Foundation. Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Old A’s Makaeo County Pavilion. Casual attire. Hisayo Hiramoto

Hisayo Hiramoto, 98, of Papaikou died on June 26 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Kine-land (Papaikou), she was a member of the Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Visitation to be held 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Papaikou. Memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Inturnment service will be held the same day at Alae Cemetery in Hilo at 1:30 p.m. Casual attire is requested. No flowers. No Koden (monetary offerings). Tomie “Trudy” Kaniho

Tomie Kaniho, 96, of Kamuela, died Sept. 16 at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. She was born in Anahola, Kauai, and was a retired secretary with the Federal Dept. of Defense and was also a member of the Waikoloa Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Private services held. Survived by sons, Kalani S. Kaniho of Kamuela and Kazu K. (Penny) Kaniho of Pearl City; daughter, Kathy K. Leonard Lee Ponce

Leonard Lee Ponce, 67, of Kealakekua, died on June 24 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was an oil rigger for the Alaskan Pipeline and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Services were held at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Hajime Shinjo

Hajime Shinjo, 74, of Hilo, died Aug. 9 at Straub Hospital in Honolulu. Born in Yuu, Yamaguchi, Japan, he was a retired Oriental food buyer for Suisan and member of Hilo Meishoin. He is survived by wife, Aileen Shinjo of Hilo; daughters, Tracy (Thanh) Nguyen of Roseville, Calif., Cara Shinjo of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Brian (Helen) Shinjo of Roseville, Calif.; brother, Takehiko (Toshiko) Shinjo of Yuu, Yamaguchi, Japan; sister, Noriko (Shoji) Hiroshige of Yuu, Yamaguchi, Japan; five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Satsuyo Taira

Satsuyo “Sats” Taira, 94, of Hilo, died Sept. 2 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Pahoa, she was a retired secretary for United Airlines, owner of the former Taira’s Big Island Anthuriums and Banyan Florist and member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Buddhist Women’s Association, Taishoji Soto Mission, Hilo Daijingu, Nikkei Jin Kai, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and Niigata Kenjin Kai. Private services held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers. She is survived by children, Merle (Wil) Okabe of Hilo, Colleen (Bert) Ganir of Pukalani, Maui, Harold (Sharleen) Taira of Lihue, Kauai, Jeanne (Wayne Ponce) Taira of Pukalani, Maui; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
