Special Olympics fundraiser needs volunteers

Join Special Olympics West Hawaii for their largest fundraiser of the year, Badges and Buckets, formally known as Cop On Top.

Special Olympic athletes and law enforcement will be at the Kona Walmart Friday Nov. 10 thru Sunday Nov. 12 accepting donations from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday.

As a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run events, off-duty Law Enforcement Officers volunteer their time on top of 10-foot scaffolds to raise awareness and resources for Special Olympics West Hawaii. All money donated stays in West Hawaii.

Show your support for law enforcement officers from the Hawaii Police Department during this 3-day event to support Special Olympics West Hawai‘i athletes.

Pre-register for December’s First Saturday art class at Waimea library

Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library of the Hawaii State Public Library System opened registration for the next First Saturday Community Art Class, Sculpt Your Own Poinsettia Flower, which will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sat., Dec. 2. The free First Saturday Community Art Classes are presented in partnership with the Waimea Arts Council

Waimea Arts Council artists Lorrie Taylor and Lorie Taylor will lead the class for beginning artists ages 10+. Students will learn how to create their own poinsettia flower from air-dry clay.

Classes are held in the library meeting room, with all supplies provided by the Waimea Arts Council. Class size is limited and advance registration at the library for each class is required.

To register, or for more information, call 808-887-6067. The Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
