Abraham Moses

Abraham Kanaloa Carter Moses, Jr., 61, of Hilo, died May 8, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu on December 1, 1960, he was a warehouse manager for Garden Exchange. He was the owner of Abe Services, was a commercial fisherman for Hanalike of Napo’opo’o and a member of the Hawaii National Guard. Visitation at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Honaunau Rodeo Grounds followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire. He is survived by his daughters, Jazman (Wilfred) Haalilio, Jr., of Honaunau, Ariel Moses of Honaunau, Monique Moses of Honaunau; sons, Adam (Haunani Hashimoto) Moses of Honaunau, Kahiau Medeiros of Ka’u; brothers, Van Clint Moses of Waianae, Cid (Daniette) Moses of Nanakuli, Derrick Moses of Honaunau and Scott (Haunani Quizon) Moses of Waianae, 18 grandchildren; several aunts, uncles and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Llewelyn Kauwe

Llewelyn Alana Kauwe, 67, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, passed away on November 16, 2023 at his residence. He worked as a general contractor and served as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived by wife, Cheryl Kauwe; children, Christie (Jody) Jennings, Jenny (Earl Hidie) Gaspar, Matthew (Emily) Kauwe, Heather (Bronson) Miner; nine grandchildren; and mother, Shirley Kauwe; sisters, Renee (Henry) Dickenson, Leandra Oandasan, Danielle (John) Correa; and extended family. Lenny will be honored on December 16, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kealakekua Meetinghouse (81-6493 Mamalahoa Hwy, Kealakekua, HI). Visitation at 9 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Lenny will be laid to rest at the Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa following the funeral services. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Norman Iha

Norman Terumi Iha, 69, of Hilo died on Nov. 8 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a food purchasing manager at Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and member of the Tsunami Golf Club and Waiakea Pirates. Private services. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Tessi Iha of Hilo; daughter, Candice (Paul) Wendt of Phoenix, Arizona; son, Randall Iha of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Christine Iha of Hilo; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Elizabeth Lee

Mrs. Elizabeth Kaleimomi Lee, age 102, of Waipahu, Hawaii (formerly of Hilo), died November 13, 2023 in Waipahu, Hawaii. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 30, 1921 and retired from the Kahala Hilton Hotel on Oahu. Graveside committal service and burial will be held at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo, Hawaii on December 7, 2023 (Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. She is survived by sons, Chadwick (Shirlene Tyau) Lee of Waipahu and Dale Craig (Gloria) Lee of Mountain View, Hawaii; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Irene Gomes

Irene Makaaeae Gomes, 93, of Hilo, died Nov. 10 at home. She was born in Pepeekeo and was a school cafeteria cook with the State of Hawaii, Department of Education and was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 6) at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 6 p.m. Committal service 9 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 7) at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Bernard (Pam) Gomes, Jr. of Everett, Wash. and Joseph K. (Elna) Gomes of Hilo; brothers, Sam (Betty) Santos of Albuquerque, N.M. and Roy Santos of Hilo; sisters, Carol (Randal) Nakasato and Laura Cardines of Pepeekeo; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Ellen Kato

Ellen Hayako Kato, 92 of Hawi, died Nov. 22, 2023, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Hawi, she was a travel agent in Kealakekua and a utility clerk at the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union in Kona. Private services. No flowers or koden (monetary offerings).Survived by son, Glenn K. (Denise) Kato of Puyallup, Wash.; daughter, Arlene N. (Simon) Kato of San Francisco; brothers, Clyde Sugiyama of San Jose, Calif., Roy (Agnes) Sugiyama of Waipahu, Oahu; sister, Jane Kawazoe of Hilo; three nephews and four nieces. Herbert Alves

Herbert “Joe” Joseph Alves, Jr., 65, of Hilo, died November 4, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on August 9, 1958 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was former rubbish man for the City and County of Honolulu and a mechanic. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday (Dec. 9, 2023) at 1551 Auwae Road, Hilo, Hawaii 96720; please contact the family for more information.
