KEALAKEHE — Led by senior star Kau‘ionalani Mahi-Murray’s four goals, Waiakea girls soccer handled Kealakehe in mercy-rule fashion Thursday afternoon at Waverider Stadium — trouncing the Waveriders 9-0 in 69 minutes. It was the second outing of the season in which Mahi-Murray has posted three goals or more.
Additionally, Kira Kuramoto and Ailani Franklin scored two apiece along with ‘O‘ili Aloy’s one for Waiakea. The Warriors controlled the pace for the match’s entirety — constantly pushing the ball in Waverider territory.
Waiakea (6-0-0) continues to sit atop the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF), and will next play the Waveriders again at 2 p.m. Jan. 4. Kealakehe (1-3-0) hosted Honoka‘a on Saturday afternoon at home, in which the results will be published in Thursday’s paper.
Hilo shuts out Kona
Hilo girls soccer took care of business Thursday at Wong Stadium — routing Konawaena 6-0.
Kryslynn Nanarro and Aneala Sibayan led with two goals apiece, while teammates Sera Varize and Maiya Kepoo-DeConte added a goal each for the Vikings. Sibling Teyahlia DeConte played goalkeeper, posting a shutout.
Next up, Hilo (2-0-1) and Kona (0-3-1) will face off on the pitch once again at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Julian R. Yates Field in Kealakekua.
