The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of January is clay flower sculptor and painter Lorie Taylor.

Lorie Taylor grew up and spent most of her adult life in Southern California. After a 30 year career in law enforcement, she retired with her husband on the the Big Island. She first visited the Hawaiian islands 25 years ago, with her husband who grew up on Maui. She was determined to move here ever since, when she fell in love with the beauty, the people, and spirit of aloha most of all.

Taylor creates beautifully realistic floral arrangements that fool the eye. She completed her formal instruction at DECO Clay Craft Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she trained under Master Instructor Yukiko Miyai and Head Office Instructor Chenli Garcia-Wang. Through formal instruction and continued creativity Lorie has combined her love for clay sculpture and painting skills. She is currently working with local businesses to replace costly and time-intensive fresh flowers with more sustainable clay flowers. In addition to her clay sculptures, Taylor is an award winning collage artist and acrylic painter. She believes in sharing her love of the islands and the Hawaiian people through her art, which can be seen in her vibrant colors and subject choices. For more of her work check her website at Loriesart.com. Among her featured paintings are “Pualani” that recently won first place at Waimea Art Council’s 39th Annual Juried Art Show and “Pueo with Maui’s Hook” that was recently on display at Wailoa Center for the Hawaii Nei Exhibit.
