The Blood Bank of Hawaii is encouraging Kona residents who were not able to make donations this week to reschedule their appointment.

Due to the runway closures at Kona International Airport, the current Kona Blood Drive happening this week has been impacted as some staff who were scheduled to arrive on the island Tuesday have been delayed thus reducing the capacity of donors allowed. Blood Bank of Hawaii asks Kona donors to reschedule their appointments for either today or Thursday, Feb. 15.

Blood Bank of Hawaii said they are working closely with Hawaiian Airlines to ensure Kona Hospital is receiving the blood they need.

Blood Bank of Hawaii, the state’s sole provider of blood products is currently at a half-day supply of O-positive and O-negative blood, and it’s especially important for people with O-type blood to make a donation.

New and previous donors interested in making an appointment can visit bbh.org or call (80) 848-4770.
