Robert Edward Payapaya, 74, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 16 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was retired roofer and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Inurnment noon Friday (March 1) at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Bernadette Payapaya of Kailua-Kona; sons, Brian Payapaya of Kailua-Kona and Brandon Payapaya of Kalaoa, Kona; sisters, Edwina Higa and Deborah Jean Payapaya of Honolulu; 16 grandcildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Douglas Ceredon

Douglas Ceredon, 80, of Honokaa died Nov. 28. Born in Hawaii, he was a U.S. Army veteran. Committal service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday (March 1) in Hilo Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Richard (Dickie) “Chico” Carvalho

Richard (Dickie) “Chico” Carvalho, 79, of Paauilo died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Paauilo, he was a garage maintenance mechanic for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., employee of D&M Hydraulic Services, McDonald’s Waimea, Kona Mazda, Paauilo Nutrition Center and Brantley Center, and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (March 1) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Mass at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (March 2) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Survived by wife, Violet Carvalho of Paauilo; children, Darren (Betty Richard) Carvalho, Wendelyn Carvalho and Darice Carvalho of Paauilo, Melody (Jose) Salinas of Waimea and Dodie (Nolan) Tadio of Paauhau; sister, Ethel (Juan Danny) Jose of Seaside, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Vicente Cruz, James Magno and Angel Magno of Hilo; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Chavez of Santa Monica, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Allen “Uku” Hartwell Naea Lindsey

Allen “Uku” Hartwell Naea Lindsey, 92, of Waimea died Jan. 20 at a private care home. Born in Waimea, he was a retired cowboy and hunting guide for Parker Ranch, tourist driver for Slim Holt, sugar boat worker in Kawaihae Harbor, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Hawaiian Civic Club. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (March 2) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waimea. Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Waimea County Cemetery, Mormon Section. Akimi “Elsie” Yoneda Sakamoto

Akimi “Elsie” Yoneda Sakamoto, 97, of Kapaau died Dec. 30 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Kapaau, she was a cook at the former Luke’s Restaurant and a member of Hawi Jodo Mission.
