The annual Kona-Kohala Earth and Ocean Day returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, at the Maka‘eo Pavilion in Old Kona Airport Park.
This event, organized by Sue Aronson, director of Kona Ridge to Reef Institute, brings together communities to celebrate and explore ways to protect and preserve the environment.
This year’s event focuses on vital topics such as freshwater conservation, north and south watershed flood mitigation, ahupua‘a land management and the Hawaii Ulu Cooperative agroforestry.
One of the highlights of the day will be a demonstration on making Genki balls using effective microorganisms inspired by the success of the Genki Ala Wai project on Oahu.
These beneficial microorganisms play a key role in restoring and maintaining ecological balance, making them a valuable tool in sustainable land and water management practices.
Attendees of all ages are encouraged to participate and discover how they can make a positive impact on their local environment.
