Rose Lucinda Ramos Rosimo

Rose Lucinda Ramos Rosimo, 102, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Kohala, died Feb. 7. Born in Papaya, Philippines, she was a retired site manager for the Hawaii County Nutrition Program, piano teacher in Kohala, founded the Kohala Filipina Community Association, taught English to new immigrants and helped many gain their U.S. citizenship. In 1993, she was recognized by the County of Hawaii as Outstanding Female for Older Americans, and in 2012, was recognized for her 30-plus years of service by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Kapaau. Casual attire. Survived by children, Ruth (Ed Stuber) Rosimo, Phoebe (Jimmy) Williamson and David (Debbie Clark) Rosimo; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Gene Garcia Niihau

Gene Garcia Niihau, 66, of Waimea, died March 3. Born in Honolulu, he was a flooring carpenter. Harrison Kalani Leo Timothy Heinicke

Harrison Kalani Leo Timothy Heinicke, 64, of Hawi died March 7 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. born in Honolulu, he was a fula dancer, ukulele instructor, weaver, member of Na Kupuna O Kohala Hula Halau and Kohala Senior Citizens, and U.S. Army veteran. David Thomas Ferreira

David Thomas Ferreira, 69, of Hilo died April 11 at home. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired Hawaii Army National Guard sergeant first class and senior personnel service manager and Family Assistance Center specialist. Born in Kealakekua, she was a cashier/hostess at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel and union chairwoman for Local #1505, a banquet waitress at the Outrigger Resorts at Keauhou Bay, karaoke hostess at the former Terus, Lamplighter’s and Lighthouse Bar and Restaurant, member of the AAA, AARP, the Kuakahela and Girbisi/Pacatang Ohana and Smiling Faces women’s softball team and loved bowling, ping pong and billiards. William Moon Apele Kalua‘u Jr.

William Moon Apele Kalua‘u Jr., 75, of Kalaoa, Kona died Jan. 21 at home. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired U.S. Army sergeant first class in Special Forces who served three tours in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart, a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a Bronze Service Star.
