Big Island police have released a composite sketch of a man who reportedly attempted to rob a Hilo man on Oct. 31 in Hilo. Investigators are asking the public’s help locating the suspect.
Around 8 p.m. Oct. 31, police responded to the Waiakea Villas after receiving a report from a 49-year-old Hilo man that while he was walking in the complex toward his vehicle in the parking lot, he was approached by a man who allegedly brandished a weapon and demanded money, according to the Hawaii County Police Department. After the 49-year-old man refused, the suspect fled the area. The victim was not injured.
The man is described as “local,” in his late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, according to police, who noted he also had light mustache. At the time of the reported robbery, the man was wearing a black T-shirt, dark shorts and a cap embroidered with the words “B.J. Penn.”
