Kiewit Building Group Inc., one of Hawaii’s leading general contractors, is accepting applications for its 2014 scholarship awards. Scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to three Hawaii high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in architecture, construction management or engineering. Applications must be postmarked by March 31.

Kiewit Building Group initiated the scholarship program seven years ago to support students who will be the community’s future leaders. To date, the scholarship program has awarded $45,000 in scholarships to 18 students. In addition, Kiewit Building Group has hired past scholarship recipients and brought on other recipients and applicants as interns.

“Our scholarship program is one of the most gratifying programs we have for community investment at Kiewit,” said Sharon Ann Thom, senior vice president and Hawaii area manager of Kiewit Building Group. “The dividends are especially rewarding when we’re able to hire these same people as summer interns, and ultimately, as full-time professionals.”

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0; be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student by an accredited four-year university; intend to pursue a major in engineering, architecture or construction management; and submit two letters of recommendation. Students must complete an application and submit a 500-word essay on why they should be considered for the scholarship.
