Robert Matthews Jr.

Robert “Bob” Charles Matthews Jr., 67, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 11, 2014, at home. Born Dec. 27, 1946, in Los Angeles, he retired as electronic manufacturing operations manager at TRW in Redondo Beach, Calif., was a past member of the Paradise Fishing Club and owner of the BadBuoy fishing boat.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at 74-5081 Kai Opua St., Kailua-Kona.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Matthews of Kailua-Kona; son, Robert (Angie) Matthews of Encinitas, Calif.; daughter, Stacy (Ryan) Horton of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Ron (June) Walker of Phoenix; sister, Donna (Wes) Hickish of Pinon Hills, Calif.; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alexander Dizol

Alexander Dizol, 86, of Wabasso, Minn., died Nov. 22, 2013. He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Puhi, Kauai.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hilo for a service. Burial will be at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at noon.

He is survived by children, Alexis (Wallace) Salvador of Honolulu, Yvonne Dizol of Spokane, Wash., Alex (Jerri) Dizol of Waimea, Harvey (Tammy) Dizol of Sacramento, Calif., Pamela (Fred) Smith of Columbus, Ga., Patrick Dizol of Corona, Calif., Creighton (Zan) Dizol of San Antonio; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Edward Carvalho

Edward Clayton Carvalho, 54, of Keaau died Jan. 1, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a cook for the Department of Education and formerly for Kilauea Lodge.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Cremation follows. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Marilou Carvalho of Keaau; sons, Michael Carvalho II and Moses Carvalho, both of Keaau; daughters, Michelle (Paul) Kim of Pahoa, Marie (Jordan) Weaver of Mountain View, Monique Carvalho of Keaau, Absity Carvalho-Cuba of Hilo; parents, Santos and Judith Carvalho of Pahoa; brothers, Benjamin (Lehua Aana) Carvalho and Kurt Carvalho, both of Pahoa; sisters, Lisa Kealoha of Waimanalo, Oahu, Joann Carvalho of Pahoa; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Daisy Matsunaka

Daisy Fujie Matsunaka, 85, of Papaikou died Dec. 13, 2013, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born June 10, 1928, in Papaikou, she was a retired office clerk for KTA Super Stores and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission and Silverton Kumiai.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. In lieu of monetary gifts or flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., Hilo, HI 96720.

She is survived by husband, Takeshi Matsunaka of Papaikou; brother, Clifford (Sayo) Nakatani of Altadena, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Theodore Kawasaki Sr.

Theodore “Zabu” Kenichi Kawasaki Sr., 60, of Hawaiian Paradise Park died Jan. 2, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a painter for Qualified Painting Service and a former bricklayer insulator for Brewer Environmental.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Geraldine Kaipo-Kawasaki of Hawaiian Paradise Park; daughter, Jennifer (Brada) Cacal of Hilo; sons, Thomas (Lani) Hanato-Figueredo of Colorado Springs, Colo., Theodore (Lacy) Kawasaki Jr. of Kona, Kevin Yates of Waimea; brothers, Walter (Connie) Kawasaki and Shawn Lincoln, both of Hilo; sister, Angie Lincoln of Florida; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
