Soroptimists honor community members
A Soroptimist Awards Dinner is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10 in the Honu Dining Room of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Cost is $33 per person.
The organization will present four awards for the following programs:
Women’s Opportunity Award: This cash award is presented to two deserving women who serve as the primary wage earners for their families and who wish to improve their economic situations through education and training. Claire Akau of Hilo and Tanya Sato of Mountain View will be presented with $1,000 to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education-related expenses.
The Violet Richardson Award: This award honors young women between 14 and 17 for volunteer action in their school or community. This year’s winner is Jocelyn Campollo from Kohala High School, who will receive $1,000. A gift of $250 will also be awarded to an Alzheimer’s organization on her behalf.
Youth Citizenship Award: This $1,000 award is available to both male and female students, between 14 and 17, who demonstrate outstanding citizenship through service, dependability, leadership and a clear sense of purpose. This year’s winner, Hauoli Sproat-Lancaster from Kohala High School, is highly motivated as a student leader and community caregiver, giving many hours of her time to others.

Chamber webinar discusses upcoming trip to Italy
Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free informational webinar about its upcoming group trip to Italy.
The webinar may be watched from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday from any computer. Everyone is invited to participate. Details of the Oct. 7 to 15 Italy trip will be provided, which will include tours through Florence, Rome, Venice and Pisa. Trip cost is $3,825 per person for double occupancy, including round-trip airfare from Kona International Airport. Interested participants for the webinar can register at kona-kohala.com.

Archivist discusses care of photos and documents
A Hanohano lecture from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday will teach attendees how to care for photos, documents and objects like an archivist would. The free talk is held at West Hawaii Civic Center.
The speaker will be Joy Holland Cesca, executive director of Kona Historical Society, who holds a master’s degree in library science and has a background in archive and special collections care.

Energy healer addresses Rotary Club
Energy healer and author Maxima Forslund will speak at the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise weekly breakfast meeting at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.
Forslund will give an explanation of energy used as a healing source. Breakfast is $10.
