High school rodeo at Paniolo Park
The Hawaii High School Rodeo at Paniolo Park in Waimea features the state finals junior division today to Sunday. The high school division finals are June 12 to 15.
The competition begins at 1 p.m. today. On Saturday, the second go round begins at 9 a.m., with the finals starting about 1 p.m.
Sunday activities, including an auction, awards banquet and lunch at Pukalani stables, begin at 10 a.m.
The competition is free; donations are welcome. Food will be sold, with proceeds to benefit the program.

Basketball camp set for Honokaa
The Big Island All-Stars Honokaa Basketball Camp will be held May 30 to June 1 at Honokaa Parks and Recreation Gym.
The camp is for children who just completed kindergarten through eighth grade.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. May 30 for kindergarten through third grade, or 8 and younger; noon for fourth- through eighth-graders, or keiki 9 and older.
The session for the younger group runs 8:30 a.m. to noon, while the older group goes 1 to 4:30 p.m.
The $50 fee — payable to Big Island All-Stars with “Honokaa Basketball Camp” in the memo — and application are due by May 21. Mail them to Daphne Honma, P. O. Box 355, Paauilo, HI 96776.
Walk-ins will be accepted, but each session is limited to 90 applicants.

Hapuna Beach Roughwater Swim
The Hapuna Beach Roughwater Swim, part of the Bike Works Triple Crown Series, will take place June 14 at Hapuna Beach.

Pickleball classes
The Holua Pickleball Ohana is offering beginner, intermediate and advanced classes at 3 p.m. May 14.
There is a $5 court fee. The group will provide paddles, balls, water, chairs, shade and snacks.
Drop-in play is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. until dark, and Fridays from 8 to 11 a.m.

A 3-on-3 half-court league for players 50 and older begins May 28 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

Horseshoe club league starting
The Kona Horseshoe Pitchers Club will start its eight-week doubles league May 15. The games are from 4 to 6 p.m. at the horseshoe courts at Old Kona Airport Park.
League fees are $5 a week and include a prize and potluck party at the end of the league season. Players must be NHPA members and have their own shoes. Pitchers without partners will be matched up when possible.

Konawaena football game and food drive
The Wildcats will partner with Hawaii Food Basket on May 30 for a food drive at their Green & White game at Konawaena High School.
Fans who donate four cans or five pounds of food will receive complimentary tickets to the game. Admission is $4 for adults; $2 for senior citizens; and free for children 12 and younger. Nonperishable food items must be in cans or unopened bags.
The Green & White game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., preceded by a 5:30 flag football game between the police and fire departments.
Police department race benefit
The inaugural “Run To Honor” 5K run/2-mile walk/Keiki Fun Run will be May 17 at Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo.
The run and walk start at 8:30 a.m., with check-in and registration 7 to 8 a.m. Entry fee is $25.
The Keiki Fun Run, for ages 6 to 14, starts at 9:30 a.m., with check-in and registration 7 to 9:15 a.m. The Fun Run is free.
T-shirts are included, and there will be food, entertainment and keiki activities.

Registration for Hilo’s triathlon
Hilo’s first official triathlon will start at 7 a.m. July 13 at James Kealoha Beach Park.
The Olympic-distance race — 1.5-km swim, 40-km bike ride and 10-km run — is limited to 500 participants.
Registration is $150 through May 30 and $175 to midnight June 30.

Summer hoops camp at Konawaena
The 2014 Hawaii Island Hoops College-Prep Basketball Camp will be held June 16 to 20 at Konawaena High School.
The camp offers skill development for youngsters and introduces them to college-style workouts and training.
Teaching staff will include college coaches.
The camp fee is $350 and includes a jersey and shorts, meals and seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment.
