Kealakehe Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization and the Big Island Running Company helped sponsor a run and walk program twice a week during the final semester of the 2013-14 school year. In the mornings, students run or walk laps for blue tickets. Five blue tickets equates to a mile. The class in each grade level with the most miles wins a healthy lunch party from the school’s parent teacher organization.

The Big Island Running Co. donated prizes and participant ribbons to all participants. This program has helped spark a fun interest in getting fit and eating right. Each week, hundreds of students showed up to the playground to get in at least 25 minutes of fitness for the day.
