Hawaii Volcanoes National Park recently announced upcoming flight plans. Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
From 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, aircraft will transport fence materials to Olaa.
Between 8 a.m. and noon Monday through July 11, aircraft will transport fence materials, supplies and personnel for fencing project from Mauna Loa Road to Upper Mauna Loa.
Between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. July 15, aircraft will be used for invasive weed management on Mauna Loa between 5,000 and 7,000 feet in elevation.
Between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. July 15 and 17, aircraft will be used for ungulate surveys and control work in Kahuku between 3,000 and 7,000 feet in elevation.
Between 8 a.m. and noon, July 16 and 17, aircraft will be used for petrel monitoring from the summit of Kilauea to Mauna Loa at about 9,000 ft. elevation.
Between 8 a.m. and noon July 24, aircraft will be used to transport fence materials, supplies and personnel for fencing project in upper Kahuku above Ka‘u Forest Reserve.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
