Jack Moses Sr.

Jack A. “Jackie” Moses Sr., 82, of Honomu died June 30, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 31, 1932, in Pepeekeo, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Mauna Kea Agribusiness and Hilo Coast Processing Co., a Hawaii Army National Guard veteran and member of the Honomu Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Friends may at 5 p.m July 9 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may call again at 9 a.m. July 10 at the mortuary for an 11 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by daughters, Etta Mae (Gabriel) Palea and Joyce (Bill) Kepoo, both of Hilo, Jacqueline (Michael) Liverett of Keaau; son, Jack Moses Jr. of Honomu; brothers, Joseph Moses of Kona, John (Alice) Moses and Paul (Jane) Moses, both of Hilo; sister, Theresa Correa of Kailua, Oahu; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Valerie Kossow

Valerie Theresa Kossow, 89, of Kailua-Kona died June 19, 2014, at a private care facility. Born July 16, 1924, in Los Angeles, she was a telephone operator during World War II and a former head statistician for NASA at Huntington Beach, Calif.

Friends may call at noon July 11 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery for a service and burial.

She is survived by son, Glenn (Barbara) Kossow of Kailua-Kona; sister, Margaret Kanov of Tujunga Hills, Calif.; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Paul Panui Sr.

Paul “Lani” Kalani Panui Sr., 74, of Hilo died June 21, 2014, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired marine cargo specialist with the state Department of Transportation and member of Kuhio Chapel.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 11 at Kuhio Chapel in Keaukaha for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Paul Panui Jr. of Honolulu, William Panui and Patrick Panui, both of Hilo; daughter, Paulette (Douglas) Scott of Keaau; brothers, Edward Panui of Molokai, Charlie (Stacey) Panui of Honolulu; sister, Jennie Gomes of Honolulu; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Dolores Thomas

Dolores Thomas, 73, of Pahoa died June 27, 2014, at The Pohai Malama Hospice of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by sons, Antone (Maggie) Ancheta of Mountain View, Lorenzo Ancheta, Reynold Thomas and David Thomas, all of Puna, Ashley Ancheta of Kauai, Charles Thomas of Honolulu; daughters, Rosemary Thomas and Brenda Wallace, both of Honolulu, Beatrice Mussro of California; brothers, Samuel Fernandez of Honolulu, Raymond Barry of Kona; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patrick Masutomi

Patrick “Pat” Shunji Masutomi, 79, of Kailua-Kona died June 11, 2014, at the Galanto Residential Care Home. Born March 16, 1935, in Kealakekua, he retired as regional vice president for American Savings Bank, was also employed by the Kona Community Federal Credit Union and First Insurance Co., former president of Kona Hongwanji Mission, member of the County Board of Ethics and Jury Commission, Shinwakai, Kona Jaycees, Kona Mauka Rotary Club, Yamaguchi Kenjin-Kai, ‘71 Golf Club and Akitsu Kumiai and refereed, coached and umpired various baseball and basketball teams and was involved with the Boy Scout of America and Kona Krafts.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. July 12 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire worn be worn and no flowers or monetary donations.

He is survived by wife, Doris Masutomi of Kealakekua; son, Randall (Caryn) Masutomi of Kealakekua; daughters, Shari (Patrick) Yates of Kailua-Kona, Jaclynn (Andrew) Akester of Las Vegas; brother, Benjamin (Reiko) Masutomi of Hilo; sisters, Mary Katayama of Captain Cook, Vivian (Robert) Orozco of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cathleen Mershant

Cathleen Anne Sullivan Mershant, 55, of Ocean View died June 5, 2014, at her residence. Born Dec. 2, 1958, in San Francisco, she was a homemaker, Kuntao Silat Dethouars martial arts instructor and former manager of Honaunau Stop &Shop.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 12 at Old Kona Airport Park pavilion No. 3 for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire to be worn. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to be made in her name, to a charity of choice.

She is survived by husband, Bahati Mershant of Ocean View; daughters, Tress Fry and Jessie Russell, both of Anchorage, Alaska; sons, Butch (Monica) Chatfield of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Paxton Chatfield of Wasilla, Alaska; sisters, Sarah (Stan) Afoa and Shannon Town, both of Anchorage, Alaska, Karen Blackmore of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jennifer Lynn Demotte, 30, of Ocean View died June 18, 2014, at her residence. Born Nov. 14 1983, in West Covina, Calif., she was a housewife.

Samiko Yokoi

Samiko Yokoi, 100, of Hilo died June 3, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retiree of the former S.H. Kress Store and member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held.

She is survived by nephews and nieces.
