An uncontrolled release of hydrogen sulfide at the Puna Geothermal Venture plant in Pohoiki has been contained, according to the Hawaii County Civil Defense. The release was contained at 9:18 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency crews responded and plant operators worked to control the release, reported about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, and monitored the emissions. Residents were advised to remain indoors or to evacuate the area if any discomfort was experienced.
