Hypno-birthing talk offered at Tutu’s House

Medical support hypnotherapist JonMarie Kerns will explain how hypnosis can benefit childbirth from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tutu’s House in Waimea.

Hypnosis is a relaxed state that empowers healthy body and mind connections, creating benefits for many aspects of pregnancy and birthing.

Meetings discuss Kahaluu Ma Kai project

Two open house gatherings hosted by Kamehameha Schools to discuss a draft environmental assessment for the Kahaluu Ma Kai project have been rescheduled because of recent storms.

The gatherings will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the former Drysdales Restaurant in Keauhou Shopping Center. Attendees will get an update on the project, be able to review the draft environmental assessment and learn how to submit comments.

Committee on the Status of Women to meet

Donations sought for low-income seniors

Auntie’s Angels will hold its monthly “Soup Kitchen ‘n Pantry” Saturday for the low-income seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing.

Canned goods donations, along with fresh fruits and vegetables are requested. Expanded storage space also allows for requests from groups who wish to share basic necessities with their kupuna, such as soaps, paper products, and personal hygiene items. Drop-offs can be made during the week by calling Auntie Jan at 329-7897.

Free archery class offered for keiki

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a free beginners and intermediate archery class. Children between the ages of 9 and 14 are encouraged to register by Friday. Classes begin Aug. 27 and will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Participants shoot in an indoor target range at Hale Halawai. Registration is limited. Classes run for three weeks.

This activity is free, but a donation of a pack of large balloons would be appreciated. Balloons will be used as targets. All equipment and supplies will be provided. Participants may use their own equipment, but it must be approved by the recreation director.

Food and wine festival to benefit culinary arts programs

Four Hawaii Island culinary professionals will team up with celebrity chefs for the premier Hawaii Food and Wine Festival gala dinner from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 29 at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort &Spa.

The first-ever “Aloha Aina, Aloha Kai — Love of the Land, Love of the Sea,” is a fundraiser for local cultural and educational programs, including East and West Hawaii culinary arts.

Representing Hawaii Island are Jayson Kanekoa, executive chef of Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort &Spa, Charles Charbonneau, executive chef of Hilton Waikoloa Village, Marc Pomaski, chef and co-owner of Full Moon Cafe in Hilo and Sheldon Simeon, originally from Hilo, now operator of Migrant restaurant at Wailea Beach Marriott.

Free teen fitness class offered

The County Department of Parks &Recreation and The Club in Kona are offering a free fitness class for teens ages 13 through 18.

Classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at the Club in Kona. Classes have started, however, registration continues through Friday. Class size is limited.
