Rotary Means Business holds first meeting
Rotary Means Business-Big Island held its first meeting Aug. 21 at Humpy’s Showroom.
Rotary 5000 assistant district governor Donna Hiranaka was on hand to welcome attendees and offer good wishes from the district governor to the group of nearly 30 local Rotarians and their guests. Rotary Means Business-Big Island is the first vocational fellowship club to be formed in the state and is affiliated with Rotary International. A second group is being formed in Waikoloa.

Fish Hopper matches donations for Puna storm victims
The Fish Hopper Restaurant in Kailua-Kona has launched a challenge to the community to help Puna residents impacted by tropical storm Iselle.
The Sabu Shake Sr. Charitable Foundation, set up in memory of the restaurant’s founder, will match up to $5,000 in new donations to the Salvation Army’s Disaster Relief Fund for the Puna district.
“Our father was a lifelong supporter of The Salvation Army and we are proud to continue that tradition in Hawaii via the foundation set up in his honor,” said Sabu Shake Jr., co-owner of The Fish Hopper.
Online donations may be made at salvationarmyhawaii.org or by calling The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands divisional headquarters at 988-2136. Donations may also be placed in a Salvation Army red kettle at the restaurant.

Yoga classes offered by donation

Traffic diverted at Old Airport during fair
Starting Friday, the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will implement temporary traffic-safety measures at Old Kona Airport Park to accommodate the E.K. Fernandez Big Island Fair.
Traffic entering the park will be diverted to the beach access road at the north end of Kuakini Highway. This will ensure safety of park users, fair attendees, and fair operators. Motorists are asked to follow a temporary 5 mph speed limit on the beach access road. This speed limit will be in effect until normal traffic patterns are reinstated Sept. 11.

Public may participate in upcoming Chigo parade
In honor of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin’s 125th Anniversary, community members are invited to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime Chigo parade at 9 a.m. Nov. 23.
Chigo is a long-time tradition to honor the emperor, ministers, and temple and noble families by dressing as celestial beings. Children ages 3 to 10 who are shorter than 5 feet and weigh less than 100 pounds may participate. Cost is $100. Applications are available at the temple office at 398 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo. The deadline to apply is Aug. 31.
