Line dance class offered

An eight-week line dance class begins Thursday in Kailua-Kona.

Classes are held on Thursdays at the Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road. A beginner-level class is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. while more experienced dancers meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

This eight-week session ends on Oct. 30. Cost is $35 for one class, or $49 for both hours. One night drop-in fee is $7 for one class, $9 for both.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes, preferably no brand-new athletic shoes.

All ages are welcome. Children younger than 12 may attend free of charge.

Holoku Ball celebrates dress of the alii

Na Wai Puna o Kona along with Na Wai Iwi Ola Foundation is hosting its third annual Halia ka Nani, or Remember the Beauty, Holoku Ball at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.

A reception begins at 4 p.m. Sept. 12. Dinner, live music and a promenade presentation start at 5 p.m.

Traffic safety committee to meet

The Kona Traffic Safety Committee will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m Thursday in Kailua-Kona.

The committee creates an opportunity for concerned members of the community to meet with Hawaii County and state officials who can help mitigate traffic safety problems. Everyone will be heard. New ideas are welcome.

The committee meets the second Thursday of each month in the Community Hale, Building G of the West Hawaii Community Center.

New member orientation open to public

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce will hold a free, two-hour informational presentation highlighting chamber programs, services and benefits from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The meeting will be held at the West Hawaii Civic Center’s Community Hale, building G.
