Richardson Ocean Park closed for fire ant control

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will close Hilo’s Richardson Ocean Park, weather permitting, at 2 p.m. Thursday so maintenance personnel can apply fire ant bait.

The park will reopen at 7 a.m. Friday.

Chamber networking event open to the public

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce invites the public to its monthly After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Big Island Honda. The pau hana networking event affords attendees the chance to link with other businesses while learning about the area business community. Attendees are invited to network with members, meet new members and exchange business cards. Along with Big Island Honda, September hosts are LavaKids and PATH.

Pupu and refreshments will be served. Cost is $15 for chamber members and first-time nonmembers, $30 for repeat nonmembers. Walk-ins are welcome but registration is encouraged at kona-kohala.com. Space is limited.
