The Kailua Village Artists featured artist for the month of October is oil painter Christal Nylin.

Nylin journeyed to Hawaii Island in 1978 and made Kona her home. Her creative and entrepreneurial nature merged instantly with island life. In the span of these years, Nylin founded and developed a sports apparel company still known as Zoot Sports. She studied and become a massage therapist and health practitioner. Nylin designed and built her home and organic garden, which is now her studio and art retreat.

“I always wanted to be an artist, now I’m fulfilling that passion,” she said. “Hawaii is so full of color, energy and visual beauty I just want to paint it.”

Nylin is known for her paintings of coffee images and Kona sites. She recently returned from a summer in Paris where her coffee art was exhibited and she painted in the footsteps of her favorite impressionists. She will be exhibiting her Paris works at the Kailua Village Artists reception held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct.15.

The Kailua Village Artists Gallery is at 75-5729 Alii Dr., Suite C-110 in the Kona Marketplace. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 329-6653.
