This fall, the Donkey Mill Art Center welcomes amateur and experienced photographers for a new photo series taught by area professionals.

The photography master’s class, “Working Towards a Photographic Narrative,” with Alvis Upitis will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 and from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 18. The class is designed to inspire and direct photographers through discussion, critique and experiential learning. With a class size of six intermediate and advanced photography students, individualized guidance will be provided with a goal of producing a narrative in the theme of Kona’s local coffee culture. Each individual will edit their work and enter one final image in this year’s Kona Coffee Cultural Festival Art Show. Tuition is $110.

“How to Photograph Your Artwork and Prepare for Gallery Submission” with Laurel Schultz and Eric Edwards will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8. The workshop will begin with a short lecture reviewing tips and procedures for preparing submissions to calls for exhibitions and gallery submission. It will also cover basic techniques for digitizing artwork. Tuition is $108.

A photo open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 18. The an informal session with photo instructors and photography lovers will provide answers attendees have about their camera, printers, printing and photo editing. Suggested donation is $10 with proceeds benefiting Donkey Mill’s Youth Programs.

A Digital Still Camera Boot Camp will be Jan. 8 and Feb. 14.

Camera Essentials with John Ferdico and Eric Edwards will include an introductory lecture from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 8 and an intensive workshop from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Jan. 10. The course will teach beginning and intermediate photographers camera functions and the creative use of digital cameras. Tuition is $108.

Essentials of Composition with John Ferdico will be from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Feb. 14. The class will help those who understand the capabilities of their camera the next step to capturing compelling images is mastering composition. Tuition is $108.

“Photography: Smartphone Photography Techniques and Social Media Marketing Strategies” with Daniel Sheinfeld Rodriguez will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m March 14. This is course is intended for amateurs who seek to effectively use and share mobile imagery and are interested in exploring the creative side of smartphone photography. Tuition is $108.

“Photography: Video and Your DSC” with Eric Edwards will be from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. April 11. Today’s digital still cameras are capable of capturing amazing quality high definition video. This workshop will cover video formats, capturing video and an introduction to basic editing. Tuition is $108.
