Police have charged two people with theft and burglary in connection with a break-in last week in Kapaau.

The burglary at a home on Lehuula Circle was reported Oct. 5. Numerous items valued at $3,000 were stolen, including electronics, purses and wallets, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Friday afternoon, North Kohala police officers arrested 23-year-old Roberta Uilani Ramos of Hawi on a $20,000 bench warrant for violating probation in an unrelated theft and burglary case. She was taken to the Kona police cellblock.

Investigation implicated Ramos and her boyfriend, Kelvin Keoni Kaneshiro, in the Oct. 5 burglary. North Kohala police officers arrested him Friday evening and took him to the Kona cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

On Saturday, detectives charged Ramos and Kaneshiro with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. Ramos was also charged with contempt of court. Her bail was set at $27,000. Kaneshiro’s was set at $7,000.

Both remained at the cellblock until their initial court appearance on Monday.
