LIHUE — A former Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement manager was arraigned Tuesday on 30 counts of sexual assault.

The Garden Island reports 53-year-old Tarey William Kahana Low of Kapaa pleaded not guilty in 5th Circuit Court.

He is scheduled for trial Feb. 23.

A grand jury indicted Low on Oct. 9. He was arrested a day later. He is free on $500,000 bail.

The indictment charges Low with assaulting a female from June 29, 2007, through March 31, 2010. Thirteen counts say the assaults occurred when the victim was under 18.

Low was a Kauai police officer in the 1980s.

DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward says Low was hired in 1990 as a conservation resources enforcement officer. He became Kauai district manager in 2001. He retired in 2009.
