The Kailua Village Artists featured member for November is watercolor and oil painter Marilyn Koschella.

Koschella has enjoyed spending time and painting with the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters and in March 2009, her made first trip plein air painting in Hawaii. She has completed both a watercolor and an oil painting titled “Kiholo Bay.”

Koschella’s first love is painting seascapes, she said. When creating an oil painting, she uses a palette knife, instead of a brush. To help perfect using the palette knife technique, she has taken classes from Hope Stevenson of Mendocino, Calif., and Sandy Doherty of Kailua-Kona.

In May 2010, Koschella joined the Kona Arts Center in Kainaliu. She is also a member of the Blue Sea Artisans.

Koschella will be working at the KVA gallery on Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20. She will also be part of the group’s annual “All Member Artists Reception and Holiday Tree Ornament Sale” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28.

The Kailua Village Artists Gallery is located at 75-5729 Alii Drive, Suite C-110 in the Kona Marketplace, next to Uncle Billy’s Kona Bay Hotel. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call 329-6653.
