Kenneth Loeffler

Kenneth “Mickey” Ronald Loeffler, 81, of Hilo died Oct. 23, 2014, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born on April 26, 1933, in Hilo, he was a retired administrator for the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was also a founding member of the Menehune Band and sang in various choirs.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Section 7. Family requests aloha or casual attire be worn.

He is survived by son, Vaughn (Sylvia) Loeffler of North Carolina; daughters, Alana (Craig) Hindle of Pahoa, Luana (Greg) Wilson of Vancouver, Wash., Tania Phillips of Monrovia, Calif. and Tamara (Brian) Ching of Bonney Lake, Wash.; sisters, Leatrice Mahuna of South Point, Edna Mendonca of Kohala; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Francis Lee

Francis Ah Kit Lee, 92, of Pahoa died Oct. 26, 2014, at a private care home. Born in Kalapana, he was a retired rancher and a member of the former Star of the Sea Church in Kalapana.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 at Mauna Kea Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by cousin, Ah Choi (Evelyn) Lee of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, Pamela Lee of Puna, Pearl Lee of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Alvin Ching

Alvin “Sonny” K. Ching, 77, of Hawi died Oct. 28, 2014, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born May 4, 1937, in Kaneohe, Oahu, he was a retired supervisor for GTE Hawaiian Tel and a U.S. Army veteran.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Nov. 9 at Hawi Jodo Mission Church for a 10 a.m. service with military honors. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Sue Ching of Hawi; sons, Henry Ching, Lyle (Kendi) Ching, both of Kaneohe, Oahu; Errol Ishimine, Scott Ishimine, both of Kohala; daughter, Noelle (Reid) Hasegawa of Kaneohe, Oahu; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Farley, Lillian Morgan, Nancy Char and Candice Hee, all of Kaneohe, Oahu, Alice Chigbrow of Kingston, Wash.; brothers, William Ching and Kurtis Ching, both of Kaneohe, Oahu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bradford Timpson

Bradford Maurice Timpson, 66, of Ogden, Utah died Oct. 20, 2014, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home. Born Sept. 20, 1948, in Provo, Utah, he served in the Navy from 1967 to 1971, was a data technician for DEC Corp., was a wilderness guide in Grand Canyon and Canyonlands National Parks, and a park ranger at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Park.

A service will be held Nov. 8 in Moab, Utah.

He is survived by sons, Maurice Timpson of Holualoa, William Timpson of Kealia, Alec Timpson of Hilo; sisters, Shauna Johnson of Centerville, Utah, Shelly (Michael) Dyke of Nephi, Utah; brother, Scott Timpson of Moab, Utah.

Seiko Otsu

Seiko Otsu, 78, of Hilo died Oct. 25, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born April 19, 1936, in Kumamoto, Japan, she was retired from Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. as a factory worker.

Private services were held.

Family requests flowers and monetary offerings be omitted.

She is survived by daughters, Bonnie (Cary) Honda of Hilo and Cindy Otsu of Honolulu; brother, Ichiro (Mae) Hirayama of Hilo; sister, Kuniko (Douglas) Tsuda of Hilo; two grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Roland Mendoza Jr.

Roland Kulakauka Mendoza Jr., 45, of Hilo died Oct. 13, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a forklift operator and a member of Ka Uhane Hemolele O Ka Malamama.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Cremation will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Shawna Loo; son, Roland Mendoza III; stepchildren, Tiani Loo, Laird Loo; mother, Katherine Mendoza, all of Hilo; stepmother, Nadine Austin of Mountain View; sisters, Colleen (Rodney) Rezentes, Jessie Mendoza, both of Hilo, Jennifer Omija of Arizona, Rachael (Michael Jr.) Silva of Orchidland; brother, Reno Mendoza of Mountain View; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Yukie Tanaka

Yukie Tanaka, 91, of Hilo died Oct. 24, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mountain View, she was the co-owner and business manager of the former Tanaka Electric. She was also a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Kyodan and Buddhist Women’s Association, Hawaii Japanese Center and was a hula instructor.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers and monetary donations be omitted.

She is survived by brother, Les (Shirley) Ihara Sr. of Honolulu; sister, Nobuko (Howard) Mimaki of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill Tabunut

Bill Ray Tabunut, 65, of Kealakekua, died November 1, 2014 at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 19, 1949, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., he was a van driver for Speedi-Shuttle and former golf course maintenance worker for Hualalai Resort.

A private service will be held.

He is survived by wife, Gayla Tabunut of Kealakekua; sons, William Tabunut, Julian Tabunut, both of Calif.; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Elvin Kamoku

Elvin Kaliko Kamoku, 94, of Hilo died Oct. 24, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 24, 1920, in Kapoho, he was a fire chief for Hawaii County Fire Department, a longshoreman with C. Brewer and Co., a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, a first lieutenant in the National Guard, a member of Haili Church and Kuhio Chapel.

Private services will be held later. Interment will take place at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by sons, Elvin (Pamela) Kamoku of Kula, Maui, Richard (Anna) Sakai of San Jose, Calif.; daughters, Pauline Salazar of Kahului, Maui, Leona Kamoku of Keaukaha, Rhona (Albert Moran) Kamoku of Pasadena, Calif., Penny Kamoku of Hilo, Betty Kiba, Evelyn Sakai, both of San Jose, Calif., 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alexander Botelho

Alexander Botelho, 97, of Honokaa died Sept. 24, 2014. Born in Paauhau, he was a retired clerk with the former Paauhau Sugar Co. and Hamakua Sugar Co. He was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Helen Botelho of Honokaa; son, Dereck (Sharon) Botelho of Hilo; daughters, Georgette (Daniel) Kaniho of Honokaa, Sheryll (Guy) Kaniho of Kona, Marita Cauley of Hilo, brother, Amos Botelho of Paauhau; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Finn Sr

Robert “Bob” Willard Finn Sr., 79, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 29, 2014, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born July 19, 1935, in Yakima, Wash., he was an engineer for Olin Corporation.

He is survived by wife, Charlotte Richards-Finn of Kailua-Kona; son, Robert Finn Jr. of Kirland, Wash.; daughter, Virginia (Ron) Dunham of Mowcow, Idaho; stepsons, Kirk Gray of Seattle, Ross Gray of Okanogan, Wash.; stepdaughter, Carman Gray of Kailua-Kona; sister, Eileen Hedlund of Puyallup, Wash.; stepgrandchildren, Wylie Gray, Sarah Gray, both of Okanogan, Wash.

Ellen Iwasaki

Ellen Minamoto Iwasaki, 78, of Hilo died Sept. 18, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalaoa, she was a floral designer with Likeke Florist and a receptionist for Dr. Tomoguchi and Dr. Jenkins. She was also a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Private services were held. The family requests monetary donations be omitted.

She is survived by husband, Richard Iwasaki of Hilo; son, Neil (Rowena) Iwasaki of Maui; daughter, Cori (Ronald Layaoen) Iwasaki of Hilo; brother, Robert Minamoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Hagie (Hisao) Kaya of Papaikou, Eunice (Dennis) Kimura of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gregory Routery

Gregory Routery, 55, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 25, 2014, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born July 28, 1959, in Santa Monica, Calif. he was a member of ARC of Kona and participated in the Special Olympics.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by mother, Mary Routery of Kailua-Kona; brother, Michael Routery of San Francisco; five cousins.
