BIIF cheerleading: Waiakea sets record on way to title

Waiakea’s cheerleaders produced a Big Island Interscholastic Federation record score with their routine Nov. 5 at Keaau High to win the league championships. The Warriors (328.75 points) won BIIFs for the first time since 2011, unseating two-time defending champion Keaau (276), which finished runner-up. Both squads advanced to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association championships, which will be held Saturday in Honolulu and will be televised on OC16. Hilo (269) placed third at BIIFs, Kamehameha (254.5) was fourth and Kealakehe (204.5) fifth.

Members of Waiakea are Tihane Smith, Ariana Ramo-Segovia, Natasha Naehu, Alexis Dupre, Taylor Ayala, Keani Sato, Grace Fincher, Emma Fincher, Shaelynn Vallente, Jazmine Correa, Mariah Higashi, Brentt Sentino and Annique Daquep. Coach Lody Switzer is assisted by Tanya Switzer.
