The royal grounds and picnic area at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park reopened around 10:30 a.m. Monday, park officials said.

However, the puuhonua, or refuge quarters, will remain closed because of flooding. The shoreline is also closed because of high surf.

Park officials closed certain areas of the park while they assessed damage caused by high surf and did cleaning. The closure was reported around 8 a.m. Monday.

Park officials ask the public to be aware of the possibility of temporary closures Tuesday, when high surf warnings are expected to continue.

For updated information, visit nps.gov/puho or call the park’s visitor center at 328-2326 ext. 1702.
