A high wind warning remains posted for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits through 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The service forecast west winds of 45 to 60 mph with gusts topping 70 mph.

Winds this strong can make driving in the area dangerous. Officials cautioned that travel to the summit should be delayed until the winds subside.

The Mauna Kea access road was closed as of 9 a.m. Friday because of snow, ice and high winds, according to the Mauna Kea Weather Center.
