Open lot at Hale Halawai for parking

I wonder why the county Department of Parks and Recreation continues to deny residents and visitors access to parking at Hale Halawai. As some readers may recall, not too many decades ago, this parking lot was open both day and night.

As I understand it, based upon the whim of a county employee now long retired, this lot was closed and locked. The lot is open for special occasions.

Many people in Kona realize there is a severe public parking shortage in Kailua Village. Drivers will cruise lots looking for parking while the public lot at Hale Halawai remains closed and locked.

I urge other readers to give input in the hope that one of our county officials will be enlightened.
