Bite Me Sport Fishing granted the wishes of five children facing life-threatening illnesses recently as part of an established partnership with Make-A-Wish Hawaii.
One of the wishes being granted was for 11-year-old Isaak, who is battling Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy. From Kansas, Isaak’s No. 1 wish was to see Hawaii — a goal that has given him something for which to look forward. Isaak dreamed of seeing an island, and he wanted to pursue the adventure of swimming with whales and dolphins.
Bite Me Sport Fishing heard of his hopes and worked with Make-A-Wish Hawaii to accommodate a private charter ride for him and his family to Kealakekua Bay and the Captain Cook Monument. Bite Me Sport Fishing is among 30 area tour companies that help make wishes come true for local keiki and visiting wish kids.
Make-A-Wish Hawaii has also been pairing up with experts in volcanology to grant Hawaii Wish Kid Donovan’s wish to be a volcanologist. The 13-year-old, who is battling sickle cell disease, will soon fly from Honolulu to Hilo to see his unique wish unfold. When Make-A-Wish Hawaii grants Donovan’s wish this month, it will be the 1,000th wish granted to a Hawaii child since 1984.
