Florence Ozaki

Florence Masako Ozaki, 76, of Kailua-Kona died March 31, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was born May 29, 1938, in Burbank, Calif.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. April 16 at the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua for a 4 p.m. service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, KN 66675-8541 or Donkey Mill Art Center, the home of the Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture, 78-6670 Mamalahoa Highway, Holualoa, HI 96725 in the name of the Florence M. Ozaki Memorial Fund.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Ozaki of Kailua-Kona; sister, Midori Peregrine of Roseville, Calif.; two grandsons.

Darryl Arruda

Darryl Henry Arruda, 66, of Hilo died March 29, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1948, in Lihue, Kauai, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic, a Vietnam War Army veteran and member of the Hilo Jaycees, Hilo Casting Club, Waiakea Pirates and Makamaka Ola M/C (Motorcycle Club).

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. April 17 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial will be at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by son, Dustin (Malia) Arruda of Hilo; daughters, Kristy Arruda and Angela (Billy) Farias, both of Kauai; mother, Alice Arruda of Kauai; brother, Kelly (Linda) Arruda of California; sister, Nadine (Darrell) Horner of Kauai; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Moses Balles Sr.

Moses Coltes Balles Sr., 54, of Pahoa died April 5, 2015, at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a construction worker with Hunt Construction Co.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. April 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Tina Balles of Pahoa; sons, Travis Balles, Noah (Andrea) Serrano, both of Pahoa, Moses Balles Jr. of Honolulu; daughters, Shayna Balles of Pahoa, Rachel (Nolan) Kokubun of Mountain View; brothers, Marshall (Patricia) Balles of Mountain View, Dennis (Liz) Balles, Brian (Evelyn) Gonsalves, both of Pahoa, Rudolph (Natasha) Balles of Hilo, Michael (Lisa) Coltes of Mountain View; sisters, Elena (Jose) Quezada, Lydia (Raymond) Garcia, both of California, Beverly (Keahi) Kaleohano, Dana Balles, both of Hilo, HI; four grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Magdalena Gines

Magdalena Ramos Gines, 93, of Honokaa died March 1, 2015, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Illocos Norte, Philippines, she was a retired hotel housekeeper and full-time minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. April 18 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 44-2662A Kalopa Road in Honokaa for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Herbert Kaaukai Sr.

Herbert “Small Man” K. Kaaukai Sr., 94, of Pahoa died March 21, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalapana, he was a retired heavy equipment operator with the County of Hawaii Puna Road Department, a World War II Army veteran, member of Kalapana Community Association, Puna Canoe Club and Pahoa Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. April 18 at the Kaaukai residence, 15-2806 South Hinalea St. in Hawaiian Shores for a 10 a.m. service. Private scattering of his ashes will occur at a later date. Family requests aloha or casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Annie Kaaukai of Pahoa; daughter, Darleen Piilani (Emosi) Sevao of Hilo, sons, Herbert (Korrie) Kaaukai Jr. of Hilo, Alton (Tammy) Kaaukai of Pahoa; sister, Josephine Kaaukai of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Harley Swan

Harley David Swan, 23, of Mountain View died April 3, 2015. He was born in Alaska.
