Police investigate death in Fern Acres

The case of a 50-year-old woman who was found dead in the Fern Acres subdivision in Puna is under investigation, the Hawaii Police Department announced.

According to a police report, at about 10:46 a.m. Monday, police received a call of an unresponsive woman on Plumeria Street.

Responding officers contacted detectives after observing what appeared to be a suspicious injury.

Detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

Medics took the victim to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.

The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.

No arrests have been made but police have not ruled out foul play, according to a report. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
