Kona Town Night Market to be held Saturday
The first-ever Kona Town Night Market will be held Saturday at Brewery Block in Kailua-Kona.
The free community gathering runs from 6 to 11 p.m. and will feature local vendors, live entertainment, a fashion show, food and more. Main stage entertainment includes the I*n*ites, Sean Robbins, Victoria Prince, Dayton Raymos and a fire dance. Severed in Hawaii car club and Rydix will also hold a car show featuring vehicles from around the island.
The event will also celebrate Father’s Day and King Kamehameha Day, both of which fall during the month of June.
Proceeds from the event’s Liquid Aloha Beer Garden at Kona Brewing Co. will be donated to the Donkey Mill Art Center.
Salsa dance night planned at Kohala Village HUB Barn
The Salsa Latinos with guest artist Fara Talno will be performing at the Kohala Village HUB Barn on Friday from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
All salsa enthusiasts and Latino music lovers are invited to enjoy the rhythmic beats of Salsa Latinos. A $10 to $20 donation at the door helps to support Kohala Village HUB arts and culture programs.
For those who don’t know how to salsa, a quick lesson will be held by Michal Anna Carrillo at 7 p.m.

West Hawaii County Band offers concert
The West Hawaii County Band will celebrate jazz, blues and rock ‘n’ roll with a free concert June 12 at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive.
The concert gets underway at 6:30 p.m. and will showcase songwriters George Gershwin, Dave Brubeck, Otis Redding, Carlos Santana and others. It will also feature soloists Binti Bailey, Bill Noble, JP Thoma and Sean Wilkinson. Maestro Lisa Archuletta, a graduate of the Yale School of Music, will direct the concert.
This free performance is part of the band’s monthly concert series sponsored by the Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Department and the West Hawaii County Band Friends, a nonprofit organization.
Donkey Mill Art Center presents Big Island Biennial of Contemporary Art 2015
The Donkey Mill Art Center (DMAC) presents the Big Island Biennial of Contemporary Art 2015. The event celebrates Hawaii Island’s vibrant art community by showcasing artists dedicated to long-term studio practice as well as mid-career and emerging artists working in a variety of disciplines.
The inaugural year will feature the work of painter Roger Bockus; fiber artist Carlene Keller; ceramist Gerald Ben; and printmaker Nora Yamanoha with an exhibition through July 10 at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Hololua.
Annual Volcano Pottery Sale is June 12
The seventh annual Volcano Pottery Sale will be held June 12 and 13 at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus Hale Hoomana Educational Building.
Join 13 Big Island potters and ceramicists for this annual sale where you can meet the artists and view their many unique pottery styles all at one venue. This year, in addition to the sale, there will be an exhibition of each potter’s new work and the public is invited to bid for them in a silent auction. There will also be wheel-throwing demonstrations on June 13.
The 13 artists are Carol Yamashita, T.R. Andres, Shannon Hickey, Birgitta Frazier, Shelby Smith, Emily Herb, Ron Hanatani, Lisa Louise Adams, Margaret Lynch, Chiu Leong, Claire Seaston, Suzanne Wang and Robert Troost.

Club hosts fine art photography exhibition
The Kona Camera Club and Innovations Hair Salon will host a fine art photography exhibition on June 13.
The public is invited to come and check out the amazing fine art photography presented by 22 club members. On display will be more than 50 custom metal and canvas prints. Light pupu will be served and a wine tasting will be offered by Westside Wines.
The event will be held at the salon’s Kopiko Plaza location from 4 to 7 p.m. Parking is free.

Dave Mason offers concert in Honokaa
Dave Mason’s four-island “Traffic Jam” tour brings him to the Honokaa People’s Theatre on June 13.
Mason is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and co-founder of the legendary band Traffic. The Lazar Bear Productions concert, which starts at 7 p.m., will be an evening of music history as he retraces the earliest days of his career with Traffic and the works that launched his successful solo career.
Mason founded Traffic with Steve Winwood while both were teenagers, and created music that would find its way into the hearts of generations of music lovers. He would go on to establish himself as a successful songwriter, guitarist and solo artist.
Mason has penned dozens of hits, and his legendary guitar work has been linked with numerous other members of rock ‘n’ roll elite, including Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Rita Coolidge, Leon Russell, Ron Wood and Mama Cass Elliot.

Hulihee Palace event remembers King Kamehameha I
The Daughters of Hawaii and Calabsh Cousins present Afternoon at Hulihee starting at 4 p.m. June 14 at Hulihee Palace. The event will remember King Kamehameha I, Paiea (1738-1819).
The public is invited to the free gathering to hear the voices of the Merrie Monarchs as well as performing arts by Kumu Hula Etua Lopes and his Halau Na Pua Ui O Hawaii and the Hulihee Palace Band.
Afternoon at Hulihee is part of the palace’s series of free monthly concerts that honor Hawaii’s past monarchs and historical figures; donations are appreciated. Attendees should bring a beach mat or chair as seating is not provided.
Hulihee Palace is open for docent-guided and self-guided tours. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the exception of the palace being open 1 to 4 p.m. the Monday following 745the monthly Kokua Kailua Village stroll. Caretakers of Hulihee Palace are the Daughters of Hawaii and the Calabash Cousins. The Daughters was founded in 1903 and opens membership to any woman who is directly descended from a person who lived in Hawaii prior to 1880. Helping the Daughters in its efforts since 1986 are the Calabash Cousins; membership is open to all.
Auditions slated for ‘Shrek the Musical’
Waimea Community Theatre will hold auditions for 30 to 65 adults and keiki for its upcoming production of “Shrek the Musical.” A few performers with specialized skills, including aerial (adults) and tap dancing (keiki and adults), will be needed.
Auditions for those age 16 and older will be held June 16 and 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Voyage Church Hall in Waimea. Auditions for keiki ages 8 to 15 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 20 at the church hall.
Performance dates are slated Aug. 20 to 23 at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. Encore performances may be held at Honokaa People’s Theatre.

Cyril Pahinui to play Honokaa
The Honokaa People’s Theatre will host Hawaiian slack-key guitar master Cyril Pahinui and friends on June 26. The concert benefits the Hawaiian Cultural Center of Hamakua.
Cyril Pahinui and friends Sonny Lim, Jeff Au Hoy, Peter Wook Moon and Kunia Galdeira will perform one amazing evening of Hawaiian music presented by Lazar Bear Productions. There will be a live signed guitar auction with all proceeds benefiting the the cultural center.
