Gary Mizuno

Gary Tokuo Mizuno, 70, of Hilo died Aug. 9, 2015, at his residence. Born Aug. 8, 1945, in Olaa, he was a retired contractor and proprietor of the former Hilo Construction Inc. and member of the Hawaii Contractors Association, Big Island Auto Club and Classic Cruisers Car Club.

An “appreciation luncheon” will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Luau Hale in Hilo. Family requests casual attire be worn or no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Laura Mizuno of Hilo; daughters, Laurie Elizares and Christie (Wade) Akui, both of Hilo; brothers, Harold (Kiyoko) Mizuno, Clarence Mizuno and Royden Mizuno, all of Hilo; sisters, Adeline (John Oliveira) Fujisawa, Minerva (Stanley) Fujisawa and Margaret (Randy) LaRiviere, all of Hilo; five grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Stephen Norris

Stephen Wilson Norris, 62, of Orchidland, Keaau died July 27, 2015, at a private care home. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he was a musician, carpenter and member of the Puna Baptist Church.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 at Puna Baptist Church in Pahoa for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by brothers, David Norris, Ian Norris, Nelson Norris; sister, Corrine Mary Green-Rice.

Tomasa Utrera

Tomasa Alquesa Utrera, 65, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 11, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Lihue, Kauai. Born Dec. 14, 1949, in Cagayan, Philippines, she worked at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in the housekeeping department.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall for a 10:30 a.m. eulogy. Burial follows at Lihue Cemetery.

She is survived by husband, Venerando Utrera Sr. and family of Kailua-Kona; two daughters, Rina (Alex) Jimenez of Lihue, Kauai, Janette (Solomon) Selencio of the Philippines; two sons, Zosimo (Josephine) Unza and Guillermo (Grace) Unza, both of the Philippines; seven grandchildren; sister, Dolores Angeles of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

George Kojima

George Kojima, 83, of Mountain View died Aug. 8, 2015, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Feb, 22, 1932, in Kawaihau, Kauai, he was a retired electronics technician for the U.S. Geological Survey at the Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory, member of both Hilo and Kona Senior’s bowling leagues and a Korean War Army veteran.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 22 at Puna Covenant Church in Keaau for a 10 a.m. celeberation of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Kona.

He is survived by wife, Lily Kojima of Kailua-Kona; son, Grant (Cari) Kojima of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Parma Lou (Alvin) Lorenzo of Aurora, Colo., Joydee (Rudy) Young of Keaau; sisters, Tomie (Ted) Otani of Maryland, Vicky (Yutaka) Arakaki of Kalaheo, Kauai; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cecilia Kaluau

Cecilia “Dalin” Maliakamalu Kaluau, 54, of Honaunau died July 6, 2015, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Aug. 31, 1960, in Kealakekua, she was a former housekeeper for Kona Bali Kai and Kona Coast Resort and a foster parent.

A memorial service and scattering of ashes will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 29 at Honl’s Beach Park on Alii Drive. Family requests casual attire be worn. Loose flowers are welcome.

She is survived by son, Rick Kaluau of Honaunau; brothers, John Kaluau III and Malcolm Kaluau, both of South Point, Leonard Kaluau Sr. of Pahoa, Daryl (Darlene) Kaluau and Reuben Kaluau, both of Ocean View; sisters, Yvonne (Percy) Juario and Cheryl Dougherty, both of Hookena, Lorrie (Sam) Baker of Kailua-Kona, Triva Alves of Mexico; hanai daughter, Jenny Kaluau-Young of California; one granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Rogers

Thomas G. Rogers, 72, of Hilo died June 15, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on May 11, 1943, in Oregon.

No services are planned.

He has no known survivors.

William Aierstuck

William “Bill” Connett Aierstuck, 67, of Hawi died July 1, 2015, at his residence. Born Aug. 18, 1947, in Waukegan, Ill., he was a retired system specialist for the National Parks Service and a Vietnam Army veteran.

Private service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Hawaii Island Human Society.

He is survived by wife, Melody Moore of Hawi; sisters, Denise (Walt) Brock of Indianapolis, Louise (Bob) Brandes of Central Point, Ore.; brother, Jason (Nana) Aierstuck of Cottonwood, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Nico Barlow of Kapaau; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Mitchell Jr.

Robert Augustus Mitchell Jr., 98, of Volcano died July 21, 2015, at his residence. Born in Scottdale, Pa., he was the retired president and general manager of Edward Enterprises Inc. on Oahu, member of the Hilo and Honolulu Rotary Clubs and a World War II and Korean War Air Force veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Jim Mitchell of Volcano; daughter, Mary Lou (Charles) Mitchell Davis of Kailua, Oahu; brother, John (Kieran) Mitchell of Winchester, Va.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Kathleen Young

Kathleen “Kathie” Judith Young, 61, of Honaunau died July 22, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1953, in Babylon, N.Y., she was a retired loan collections officer for Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and owner and operator of the former The Owl’s Nest Cafe in Honaunau.

Private service will be held.

She is survived by husband, Vance Young of Honaunau; sons, Michael (Delphine) Hartmann of Kapolei, Oahu, Daniel (Trisha) Hartmann of Kailua-Kona; one grandson.

Aaron Kondo

Aaron Edward Kondo, 32, of Hawi died Aug. 8, 2015. Born Sept. 25, 1982, in Kealakekua, he was a landscaper.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Aug. 15 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 22 at Mahukona Beach Park with scattering of his ashes to follow.

He is survived by his fiance, Charlotte Aldaya of Hawi; daughter, Kailianu Lewi-Kondo of Las Vegas; parents, Allan and Sandy Kondo of Hawi; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Kondo of Hawi; brothers, Anthony (April Vohwinkle) Isabel, Allan (Melissa) Bigtas, both of Las Vegas, Robert (Michelle) Bigtas of Honolulu; sisters, Amie (Leo Sigrah) Kondo, Ashley (Rodney Baclaan) Kondo, Aileen (Matt) Stromer, all of Las Vegas, Ellie Sumic of Kona; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
