The Hawaii Fire Department has ended its search for a fisherman swept into the ocean off the Kaloli Point in Puna.

The man was last seen at 2:30 p.m. Sunday floating in waters about 50 yards offshore, according to the department.

Ground teams searched the shoreline, as did Rescue Boat Two. Chopper One performed aerial search 8 miles north and south of the last seen position and up to 1 mile offshore.

The search was terminated at sunset Wednesday pending any new developments, officials said.

The Coast Guard suspended its part of the search Sunday.
