HONOLULU (AP) — A 25-year-old surfer who recently lost most of his leg in a shark attack near Oahu says he is determined to surf again.
Hawaii News Now reports (http://bit.ly/1PaGKuP ) that doctors amputated most of Colin Cook’s left leg after he was attacked by a 10-to-12-foot tiger shark near island’s North Shore on Friday.
The day after the attack, Cook was out of his hospital bed and taking a few steps.
The Oahu man had just opened his own fiberglass surfboard shop and won’t be able to work while he learns to walk again. Cook’s high school friends are trying to raise $50,000 so Cook won’t have to worry about money during his recovery.
The surfer’s father, Glenn Cook, says his son hopes to be surfing and running his shop again by the new year.
