Emergency warning sirens will be tested Monday at 11:45 a.m., the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and Hawaii County Civil Defense report.

The sirens are normally sounded at 11:45 a.m. on the first working day of the month. The siren test is a steady one minute tone on all sirens. The steady tone is used to alert the public to any emergency that may pose a threat to life and property. Besides natural hazards, the Emergency Alert System could be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.

Residents are urged to report siren operations issues to Hawaii County Civil Defense by calling 935-0031.

The next regularly scheduled monthly testing is slated for Tuesday, Dec. 1.
