KAILUA-KONA Members of the community came together Sunday at Makaeo Pavilion to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Excerpts from Dr. King’s speeches were read by students from Kealakehe High School and quotes recited by forth and fifth grade students from Makua Lani Christian Academy. The pavilion resonated with song by the Kona Youth Chorus, Binti Bailey, the Kona Choral Society and the MLK Interfaith Choir and hula performed by Halau Hula Na Pua Ui o Hawaii.

The county band performed and the keynote speech was given by Michele Dalton. Governor Ige’s representative Susan Kim presented a proclamation for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 35th Community Birthday Celebration.

The common theme throughout the celebration was love and tollerence for people of all colors and faith.
