Hawaii County and volunteer firefighters quickly extinguished a brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon in Honaunau.

The fire, which broke out about 2 p.m., burned about one-quarter acre off Telephone Exchange Road, about a mile up from Highway 11, said Hawaii Fire Department West Hawaii Battalion Chief Ty Medeiros. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

It was declared extinguished about two hours later by crews from the Captain Cook Fire Station and 7 Bravo volunteer fire station off Kaiminani Drive in Kailua-Kona. The volunteer company was called in to assist because crews from Kailua-Kona and Keauhou were busy at an incident at End of the World in Keauhou.
