The following crime stats are from burglary, stolen vehicle and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle reports in Kona police district district for a given period. These are from April 5 to April 25.

Burglary

The first burglary of the period was reported on April 13 in the 73-2200 block of Kaloko Drive. A woman came home with her teenage son, who went into the bedroom to find the rear bedroom door open with a man standing with money in his hand. The son yelled and the man dropped the the money and ran away to the north. The woman said she left home all the doors and windows were closed and the doors locked.

Someone broke through the window of a business on the 81-6500 block of Hawaii Belt Road between 10 p.m. April 13 and 11:30 April 14 and stole items valued at $1,520.

A man reported his 22-year-old son stole a 9mm Smith and Wessson weapon from a locked and secured office closet on April 20 at 73-4100 Malino Place. The son was arrested.

A woman reported a burglary in progress after a camer detected motion, which was relayed to her by a mobile application. She saw two boys wearing blue gloves inside an office at the 75-5800 block of Queen Kaahumanu Highway at 5:19 p.m. April 23. Officers arrived at about 5:30 and found two boys, both aged 12, exiting the building. They had a soda and a kitchen knife. During a search for weapons, police found a webcamera in his shorts that the women identified as their property. Looking at video surveillance footage, police determined the boys got into the building by removing louvers, climbing through the window and opening the door from the inside.

Unlawful control of a propelled vehicle

The region had no reports of a stolen car until April 16 in the county parking lot in Kailua-Kona. The woman reported she locked and parked her white 2011 Ford Edge with plate ZBU 2200 at 7:30 p.m. The vehicle has two black turtle stickers on the side mirrors and a white turtle sticker on the back window.

A woman had her car stolen from her when she went to do her taxes on April 16 on Alii Drive. Her acquaintance was driving and dropped her off, saying she would be getting gas. When the victim finished her business, she called to be picked up. The suspect did not return. Also in the vehicle were a laptop computer and speakers. The total value of all stolen items was $16,650.

A black moped was stolen from between 10 p.m. April 21 and 7 a.m. April 22 while it was parked on the 75-5700 block of Alii Drive. The vehicle is valued at $1,200.

Unlawful entry into motor vehicle

Someone sliced into a rental 2013 Jeep’s soft-top and took a towel while it was parked on Puuhonua Road on April 9.

Two bottles of prescription morphine were reported stolen April 14 from a vehicle parked on the 75-5500 block of Palani Road. The driver reported the passenger side window was down and the door was unlocked. The pills were valued at $300.

Numerous items were reported stolen from a blue Scion XB MPV from between 7 and 10 a.m. while it was parked on Papoopoo Road. The rear passenger side window was shattered to enter, and a a wallet, pair of dive fins, a single white shoe and a bag containing baby towels and blanket were taken. The total value was listed as $85. Someone used the Bank of Hawaii debit card at the Keauhou Longs to make a $446.44 charge before the man could cancel the cards. Police reviewed the video surveillance. They reported the suspect is a white male between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10,” wearing a long-sleeved gray hoodie sweater, white T-shirt and jeans. Police checked the area without result. The window was valued at $150.

Vehicle paperwork was reported stolen from a car parked in the Coconut Grove parking lot on April 20. The canvas zip side panels were not attached when the registration, safety check document and vehicle insurance card were taken.

A work truck with the plate 435 HDX was entered on April 20 while it was parked on the 73-4900 block of Kamanu Street. A subwoofer and speakers, valued at $400, were reported stolen.

A tablet was reported stolen from the front passenger seat of a 2005 Nissan Altima, with plate HFM 650, between 11:55 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the 79-7500 block of Mamalahoa Highway. The driver reported he saw an older model red SUV parked nearby. It’s likely the suspect entered through the unlocked passenger side door.
