The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery featured artist for the month of May is watercolor painter and digital designer Stefanie Culbertson.

Culbertson moved to Hawaii in 1989 and has been painting in watercolors for more than 26 years. She continues to grow and explore her medium and infuses her paintings with images of Hawaiian stories and legends. Each one has a story to tell. She holds a bachelor’s degree in digital design.

She will feature two of her new paintings, part of her “Fire-Earth-Air-Water Series” that deal with the four elements. Her painting “Creation — Halemaumau Crater” was inspired by last year’s summit activity of Kilauea Volcano. “Night Watch” features a tranquil, tropical night sky and the surf reflecting the light of the crescent moon. But just behind the breaking surf is mano, the shark cruising on his night patrol. He appears to remind us, to be respectful and nourish all of life’s creations, keeping the balance in the cycle of life.

A reception will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in Kona International Market in Kailua-Kona

The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Info: 329-8000. ■
