Senior ID cards issued

The Coordinated Services of the Elderly will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years old and older Monday through Friday at the Aging &Disability Resource Center in Hilo.

Cards will also be issued from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Kmart, from 9 to 11 a.m. June 13 at St. Jude’s Church in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, from 9 to 11 a.m. June 13 at the Kohala Kohala CSE. Cards will also be issued from 9 to 11 a.m. June 14 at Waimea L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14 at Kailua-Kona Walmart, from 1 to 3 p.m. June 27 at Honokaa Hale Hauoli Senior Center and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29 at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building B.

Nonprofit that facilitates organ donations seeks volunteers

Legacy of Life Hawaii will hold a volunteer orientation to explain how residents can make a difference in saving lives through community outreach. The orientation will be held from 9:30 to 11:20 a.m. Saturday at Kuakini Tower, Suite 214 at 75-5722 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.

The program will provide participants with an overview of both Legacy of Life Hawaii and its Community Volunteer Program. Info: Nancy Downes or Julie Young at (877) 855-0603.

Community volunteers help at health fairs, events, at area licence bureaus and at Check the Box registration drives.

Legacy of Life Hawaii is the only organization in Hawaii federally designated to recover organs for transplant.

Summer sewing class offered

Kona VFW Post Auxiliary will conduct a sewing camp for ages 8 to 18 at the post located off of Kaiwi Street behind Kona Locksmith.

The first session will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. It will include an introduction to sewing and making of a throw pillow. The second session will follow from noon to 3 p.m. June 13. Its instruction will also include an introduction to sewing and making an apron. Fabric and machines will be provided along with lunch. Cost is $30 per person per session.

Lomberg graduates from Naval Academy

Jonathan Lomberg of Honaunau, a 2012 graduate of Kealakehe High School, has graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and has also been commissioned as an Ensign the in the U.S. Navy. He reports to flight school in Pensacola on July 1 to begin pilot training.

He is the son of Jon and Sharona Lomberg of Honaunau.
