The Hilo Orchid Society has awarded its Orchid Isle Award for 2016 to the Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club. The annual award is given to the person or organization that has done the most to promote the island of Hawaii as the Orchid Isle by placing orchids where people can see and enjoy them. Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club members have created an orchid grotto at the Daifukuji Soto Mission, and they have placed orchids in West Hawaii locations including the Outrigger Kanaloa Resort, Greenwell Coffee Farm and Kona Community Hospital.

The award was presented on June 3 at the Hilo Orchid Show. Joyce Hancock accepted the award on behalf of the Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club from Hilo Orchid Society president Rick Kelley.

The Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club hosts its 34th annual Orchid Show and Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 17 at the Daifukuji Soto Mission on Highway 11 at mile marker 114, just north of Kainaliu. Admission is free.
