Teams will gather at the Old Kona Airport Park at 5 p.m. Saturday for the annual Relay for Life event.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.

The “Paint Your World Purple”-themed event begins with an opening ceremony followed by cancer survivors taking a lap. There will also be a caregivers lap. In addition, there will be games, music and live entertainment through the night. Teams also hold creative fundraisers at camp sites.

Relay For Life’s Luminaria Ceremony also takes place Saturday night, honoring the community’s cancer survivors and remembering those lost to the disease. Participants will circle a track that is surrounded with glowing luminaria that bear the name of someone who has battled cancer. Luminaria may be purchased for $10 by visiting relayforlife.org/konahi.
