Equine behavior is the focus of the 2016 event to be held once again at the Pukalani Stables, Aug. 6 and 7. Demonstrations, lectures, clinics, shopping and a silent auction will be included in the two-day event. Activities begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Hawaii Horse Expo attracts world-renowned equine experts who travel from across the mainland U.S. to share their knowledge and skills. Talented experts here on the island participate as well. The distinguished group includes Richard Winters, Dr. Robert Miller, Tammy Pate, Dr. Mark Fitch, Dr. Susan White and Dr. Rick Lamb. Topics include “Understanding Equine Psychology,” “Solving Behavior Problems,” “Working with the Scared Horse versus the Disrespectful Horse,” and “How to Deal With the Difficult Horse.”
The event caters to anyone interested in horses and in building on their own awareness in a variety of horse-related disciplines. Clinics and demonstrations held throughout the two-day Expo include the opportunity for personal interaction with the experts.
New for 2016, a series of hands-on clinics are available where attendees have the opportunity to practice what they have just learned. These include Tammy Pate’s “Yoga for the Equestrian” and Dr. Susan White’s “The Basic Physical Exam Interpreted for Owners.”
Proceeds from the Hawaii Horse Expo will benefit the Humane Society’s Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the Big Island.
